'WOOLLIES' KNITING CLUB
Available at Waterloo and Koraunui Schools
Open entry
The ‘Woollies’ Club is facilitated by staff and community volunteers who come in to help teach kids knitting and other wool crafts. Kids unwittingly practise their math skills in the process and contribute as part of a team towards a larger project chosen together.
Projects in the past have included blankets for animal charities and winter clothes for a new refugee family. Children explore social justice, with representatives coming and receiving the project at the end, and discussing its impact.
This winter programme is immensely popular but places are limited – be sure to register today!

ART THERAPY
Available at Waterloo School
Open entry
Scholarships available
This program helps children develop strategies to enhance their own wellbeing through expressive therapy. It is perfect for children on the spectrum, dealing with grief, loss, and anger, or experiencing learning difficulties.
Working with different mediums, our art therapy classes uses the creative process to help children develop their own sense of expression and control. With encouragement and facilitation from our art therapist, these sessions are all about the process rather than the outcome.
Places are limited due to sessions requiring small groups.
DRUM LESSONS
Available at Waterloo School
Entry by scholarship only
Scholarships available
Guided by a professional musician, children have the opportunity to learn about how to play the drums. Drumming offers a chance to vent angst in a constructive and creative way, is very psychical, and offers great benefits for exercising the brain.
As well as learning about rhythm and timing, this programme helps children understand the importance of teamwork and being a part of something bigger than the individual, as the drums play a crucial role underlining almost all modern music.
